Sa’de Wiley-Gatewood - Head Coach, Women's Basketball Team

Coach Sa'de Wiley-Gatew is an accomplished coach, mentor, and leader, entering her Second year as Head Coach of Cuyamaca College Women's Basketball. With nearly three decades in the game, she’s journeyed from a celebrated Division I guard to a Southern California Hall of Fame Player, bringing championship pedigree, player-development expertise, and purpose-driven leadership.

One of the nation’s most decorated prep athletes, Wiley-Gatewood was a McDonal's All-American, Parade National Player of the Year, and Gatorade Player of the year. She made history as the first eighth-grader to commit to a university, choosing the University of Tennessee  under the legendary Pat Summitt, before continuing at the University of Maryland, where she earned her B.S. in Family Science (Child Development).

As a coach, her influence is proven. She served as an Overtime Select Coach for two consecutive seasons, leading Double Dynasty to Overtime Select's inaugural championship and guiding the Cold Hearts to the semifinals the following year. Her résumé also includes multiple CIF championships, NFHS Calfiornia Coach of the Year, and induction as a Southern California Hall of Fame Player.

Beyond the sideline, Wiley-Gatewood founded Hoop Blessings LLC, a mentorship and player-development organization equipping young athletes through leadership, faith, discipline, and academic accountability preparing them to thrive in the game and in life.

At Cuyamaca, her vision is to build a program rooted in culture, character, and competitiveness where athletes are seen, developed, and believed in. Her philosophy centers on preparation, purpose, and presence, teaching that who players become through the game matters more than the games they win.

“Basketball is more than a sport, it's a platform to shape who you’re becoming.”

Active in the community as a mentor and speaker, Wiley-Gatewood is especially committed to supporting underrepresented and first-generation college students. Under her leadership, Cuyamaca Women’s Basketball is defined by perseverance, discipline, and teamwork with a steadfast commitment to success in the classroom, on the court, and beyond.
